Finno overview

About Finno Finno is a self-hosted revenue infrastructure platform for API businesses. It unifies proxying, usage metering, billing, and double-entry accounting in one atomic flow. Unlike typical API gateways, Finno is the financial layer where digital consumption becomes accountable revenue — built into infrastructure, not stitched together after the fact. In traditional architectures, requests are served, events are emitted, and billing runs hours or days later. A structural gap between service delivery and accounting leads to lost revenue, financial disputes, and reconciliation teams. Finno closes that gap: every API request is charged and recorded before the response returns. Finno is built for organizations whose product is API consumption — from AI and LLM platforms and API resellers to usage-based SaaS and marketplaces. Instead of gateway + Kafka + Stripe + custom billing + a reconciliation team, you deploy one product on your own infrastructure. Written in Rust, Finno runs as a 3–5 node Raft-replicated cluster with sub-300ms automatic failover and under 250µs system overhead per request. Three billing models — quota, prepaid wallet, and postpaid credit — can coexist on a single API key. A double-entry ledger with six accounts (Float, Receivable, Wallet, Owed, Deferred Revenue, Revenue) enforces balance after every command. Finno supports full self-hosting and air-gapped deployment on AWS, GCP, Azure, or on-prem data centers — with built-in financial reports, Stripe integration, and an extensible payment gateway interface for regional markets.

Capabilities

Key modules

Capabilities are packaged modularly so deployment, expansion, and maintenance stay simple.

Proxy + ledger in one system

API gateway, usage metering, billing, and accounting in one atomic flow — no gap, no nightly reconciliation

Billing before the response returns

Every API request is charged and posted to the ledger before the response — revenue you can explain, not reconstruct next week

Built-in double-entry accounting

Six ledger accounts with an algebraic invariant after every command — books balance by construction, not reconciliation jobs

Three billing models on one API key

Combine quota, prepaid wallet, and postpaid credit with a configurable precedence ladder for every customer type

Reserve funds before upstream

Credit verified and funds reserved before the upstream call — eliminating post-billing financial exposure

Self-hosted and air-gapped

Deploy on AWS, GCP, Azure, or on-prem — for government operators and environments where SaaS competitors cannot go

Extensible payment gateways

Stripe built in; extensible IPG interface for regional gateways — webhook-verified fulfillment before ledger posts

Multi-currency wallets

Multi-currency ledger with localized dashboards and pricing — revenue infrastructure that scales with you

Audit-ready financial reports

Five built-in financial reports for finance and executives — no team rebuilding revenue from logs every quarter

Raft cluster with fast failover

3–5 node Raft-replicated cluster, sub-300ms automatic failover, and 10k–50k requests/sec per cluster

Sub-250µs system overhead

Hot path kept in memory with Raft fsync overlapped with upstream latency — under 250µs at p99 without skipping durability

OIDC, SSO, and OpenTelemetry

TLS 1.3, OIDC/SSO authentication, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry for enterprise observability and security
